In central Italy, 70 km due south from Ancona and 50 km from the Adriatic coast between the rivers of Potenza and Chienti, lies a tranquil area managed by the Communita Montana Alte Valle del Potenza e dell  Esino.    The area, formed by Verdicchio vineyards of Matelica and Jesi to the north and west, and the Sibillini mountains to the south and the Adriatic sea to the east and encompassing the towns of Cingoli, San Severino Marche and Tolentino, offers outstanding natural beauty at the foothills of the Apennines and is ideally situated to enjoy the coastal resorts of the Adriatic Sea and the ski slopes of the Apennines both within 1 hours drive.

Natural  beauty in 3 distinct areas

In this part of the Macerata province of the Le Marche you’ll find gentle hills, Sangiovese and Montepulciano vineyards, walled towns and watch towers every few kilometers, little rivers flowing into the sea, and the hills covered by castles and fortresses.  Monte San Vicino at 1479m dominates the skyline to the west while Monte Canfaito offers a contrast to the south west at 1111m.  The ski slopes of Frontignano are always close by.

Its History and Art

Le Marche was known in ancient times as the Picenum territory. It was conquered by the Romans in 2nd century BC. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the region was invaded by the Goths. In Middle Ages, Le Marche formed part of the Italian peninsula of the Byzantine Empire.  During the Renaissance the region was ruled by the rival aristocratic families from the houses of Malatesta and Montefeltro. From 1532 to 1860 Le Marche became part of the Papal States.   Dotted in the valley della Potenza the lookout towers of Pitino, San Severino Marche, Aliforni and Colleluce existed to alert inhabitants of invaders warning them with mirrors during the day or fires during the night.  Evidence of all this varied history can be uniquely seen in the architectural richness of buildings, chuchs and monuments everywhere.  In art galleries, churches, monasteries, castles and in towns and villages everywhere visitors can experience the beauty of the region and the warm of the people.  the many museums and art galleries vividly displayed the rich historical past of this region

Its Climate

The area enjoys moderate winters and warm summers.  On average the coolest month is January with temperatures ranging from 1C to 8C, the warmest months are July and August with temperatures of 16C to 28C and the wettest period being October to December.   Snow falls are infrequent below 500m and snow chains are obligatory when it does.
